tutorials and changing Signon Screen

Tutorial issue.
On page 7 of the tutorial, it says to use index.html to signon. I do, and it works fine.
Pages 209-221 describe how to change the aXes logon screen, but it uses login.html.
login.html and index.html are not remotely alike.
login.html does not even work
Is there an updated tutorial that describes the changes needed using index.html?
As stated before I am an iSeries/RPG programmer with limited HTML/CSS/JavaScript knowledge, so is this task even possible?
